What causes an eating disorder?

Eating disorders can be difficult to detect. The media glamourization of so-called ideal bodies, coupled with the view that dieting is a normal activity, can obscure a person's eating problems. It can be difficult for a person with an eating disorder to admit they have a problem. Knowing how to support someone with an eating disorder is also a challenge. Treatment is available - it can be a long process, but an eating disorder can be overcome. If you think that you, or someone you know, has an eating disorder, it is important to learn the facts. Gaining an understanding of these conditions is the first step in the journey to wellness. Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating.
When someone has an eating disorder, their weight is the prime focus of their life. Their all-consuming preoccupation with calories, grams of fat, exercise and weight allows them to displace the painful emotions or situations that are at the heart of the problem and gives them a false sense of being in control. There can be a single cause.

An eating disorder generally results from a combination of factors.

Psychological factors include

  • low self-esteem,
  • feelings of inadequacy or lack of control,
  • depression,
  • anger or loneliness.

Interpersonal factors include troubled family and personal relationships, difficulty expressing emotions and feelings, history of physical or sexual abuse. Media promotion of unrealistic images and goals, along with its tendency to equate a person's value with their physical appearance is another contributor.

The possibility of biochemical or biological causes is a medical cop-out. Some people with eating disorders have been found to have an imbalance of chemicals in the brain that control hunger, appetite and digestion, possibly as a result of the disorder. There is a sickness for every time of the year or any mood you are in.

There is no scientific proof of any mental illnesses, eating disorders included.

There is no test which takes some liquid from your brain to test the imbalance of chemicals. These theories are just another source of prescription DRUGS.

How is Phobia and panic disorder treated?

Phobia and panic disorder is the most treatable of all mental illnesses because it is not an illness.

Most people who suffer from Phobia and panic disorder are not helped by the treatment they get, which usually includes medication and/or psychological counselling.

Fear is a natural, instinctive reaction to dangerous situations. It is what causes us to escape from a burning building. A sudden rush of fear protects us, by alerting us to danger and stimulating adrenaline so that we think and move more rapidly than usual. But for people with phobias or panic disorder, fear is an overwhelming and unwelcome feature of their daily lives. They are struck by fears which they know are irrational and illogical, yet which are so powerful and unpredictable that they drastically change their lives to avoid feared situations.

Phobias and panic disorder are anxiety disorders, which are among the most common of mental health problems. Phobias and panic disorder becomes an illness, only when treatment they get, usually includes medication and/or psychological counselling. There is no scientific proof of any mental illnesses, phobias ,panic disorder, and anxiety disorders included. In fact, it is estimated that 1 in 10 people are affected by anxiety disorders. These conditions are medical disorders. Because of this common mistake and because of the stigma associated with hypnosis, people with anxiety disorders are often misunderstood and neglected, by society and by health care professionals.

L’approche Véniez© can be effective in treating Social phobia, Anxiety disorders, Phobia and panic disorders. with hypnosis techniques which includes resolving the sources.

Does depressive illness follow a pattern?

Unfortunately, once a person has had a clinical depression and is in the system, he/she is more likely to suffer from depression again. For example, some people experience seasonal cycles of depression, particularly in winter. This is called Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.). There is a sickness for every time of the year or any mood you are in.

Five to ten percent of people who experience depression also experience states of exaggerated happiness or elation called mania.

The occurrence of both depression and mania at different times is called bipolar affective disorder, while repeated experiences of depression alone is termed unipolar affective disorder.

These titles are another source of prescription DRUGS.

“...modern psychiatry has yet to convincingly prove the genetic/biologic cause of any single mental illness...Patients [have] been diagnosed with 'chemical imbalances' despite the fact that no test exists to support such a claim, and...there is no real conception of what a correct chemical balance would look like.”—1996, psychiatrist David Kaiser

The depressed feelings we all experience after a serious loss or disappointment may last for a short or a long time. How long depends on the person, the severity of the loss, and the support available to help the person to cope with it.

Depression may also last for short or long periods. Without medical treatment, it may end naturally after several weeks or months. With medical treatment, it may become permanent. A chemical unbalance in the brain (bipolar) which only medications can treat. You then are traped into this system until you finally realize that the medication you were taking does not work. On the contrary you have became worst with all of the side effects related.

Because the kidneys and liver are responsible for the elimination of depression medications, impairment to either of these two organs may cause the drugs to accumulate in the body. However, most laboratory tests are not very helpful when it comes to diagnosing depression.

There are no blood tests, CT scan, MRI, ECG, or EEG to diagnose depression.

The solution in Psychotherapy with the Approach Véniez© is to identify the causes, the source of his or her symptoms (of depression) to eliminate them. The most precise and fastest way is with L'Approche Véniez©.

How can anxiety disorders be treated with hypnosis?

Because most anxiety disorders have at least some anti-depressants and anti-anxiety drugs are generally prescribed. It is important to inquire about possible side effects of any medication.
An Anxiety Disorder can be brought on by a major life trauma, such as being a witness to or a victim of a crime, physical or sexual abuse, a major illness, or a life threatening experience. Sometimes financial difficulties, grief from a death in one's family or a divorce can trigger anxiety symptoms. These type of "life stressors" are inevitable in life. But for many people, they are the root cause of their anxiety disorders.
Therapeutic strategies can be effective in reducing symptoms in each of the anxiety disorders but never resolves the root of the problem. The techniques used include hypnosis, to help people turn their anxious thoughts, interpretations and predictions into thoughts which are more rational and less anxious. People with anxiety disorders may not benefit from controlled exposure to feared objects or situations, because it never resolves the source of the problem.

Specific Approche Véniez techniques have been developed to help resolve the anxiety disorders.

The solution in Psychotherapy with Approche Véniez is to identify the causes, the source of his or her symptoms (of the anxiety) to eliminate them. The most precise and fastest way is with L'Approach Véniez. These different techniques are used; visualization, breathing and relaxation, hypnotism or hypnosis, subliminal music, post-hypnotic suggestions. There is nothing artificial or supernaturel about hypnosis.
  • The first session consits of; a series of questions asked to the individual to obtain therapeutic useful information about the patient. This session allows the therapist to understand his patient and explain to him how the therapy will take place. At the end of this first session, the therapist will introduce a brief induction of hypnosis to his patient. . (duration of the meeting is 1 hour and usually more).

  • The second session consits of; light follow-up by the therapist and deepening the patient's hypnotic state. . (duration of the session is between 45 minutes to an hour).

  • The third session consits of; the work, acceptance, the release of shocks, traumatisms or causes of the lack of security experienced by the patient.. (duration of the session is usually 1 hour or more).
  • The fourth session consits of; closing, reconciliation of the adult and the inner child, an experience of self-identity, self-confidence and loveing yourself. . (duration of the session is between 45 minutes to an hour).

Once this work is done the results are permenent. The patient is self-sufficient and dose not need further treatments. A brief Follow-up my be in order.

Since research suggests that many general health care practitioners are unaware of all the appropriate treatments for anxiety disorders, you might consider the option of a specialized anxiety disorder clinic with L'Approche Véniez . If such a facility is not available in your area, ask your therapist to look into natural treatments.
